Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, share, and protect your information.
1. Introduction
Course FPX LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through https://www.coursefpx.co and the CourseFPX study platform (the “Service”), how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. By creating an account, subscribing, or using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
CourseFPX is an independent study tool — not a school. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Capella University or any institution. We are not a school, a registrar, or a holder of official education records, and we are not your institution’s “school official.” We do not maintain your transcript, grades, or other official student records; those stay with your school. The data we hold is the account and study data you choose to put into CourseFPX.
2. Information we collect
Account and profile information. When you create an account, subscribe, or contact us, we collect details such as your name, email address, password (stored hashed), the FlexPath (FPX) courses or competencies you are studying, your plan, and your communication preferences. If you provide a mobile number and opt in, we collect it to send the messages you requested.
Study and learning data. To provide the Service, we process the content and activity you create in it — for example, your self-marked competency progress, study plans and self-set deadlines, practice-question attempts and self-quiz results, bookmarked resources, source lists, and the drafts you upload for feedback and coaching. This is study data you choose to enter; it is used to operate the tools and return your progress, feedback, and coaching to you.
Payment information. When you subscribe, payment-card details are collected and processed directly by our payment processor, Stripe, Inc. We do not receive or store full card numbers. We may retain limited transaction records (such as amount, date, plan, and the last four digits) for billing and accounting.
Information collected automatically. Like most software, we (and our hosting and analytics providers) may collect technical data such as IP address, device and browser type, pages and features used, and referring URLs, through cookies and similar technologies, to operate and secure the Service.
3. How we use your information
- To create and operate your account and provide the study tools, practice, planning, formatting, coaching, and feedback features you use;
- To track and display the study progress, results, and feedback you generate, so you can manage your own work;
- To process subscription payments and maintain billing, accounting, and tax records;
- To send you account, support, and (where you opt in) study- and deadline-reminder and tutor-confirmation messages;
- To provide customer support and respond to your inquiries;
- To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service, including preventing fraud, abuse, and misuse;
- To enforce our Terms and Acceptable Use Policy, including our academic-integrity commitments; and
- To comply with legal, regulatory, and KYC/KYB obligations of our banking and payment partners.
4. SMS / text messaging privacy
We do not sell or share your mobile phone number or SMS consent with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile opt-in information is used only to send you the messages you requested from Course FPX LLC.
We send text messages — study and deadline reminders, account notifications, support replies, and tutor-session confirmations — only to individuals who provide prior express consent (for example, by checking the unchecked opt-in box). Consent is never a condition of purchase. Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP, or reply HELP for help. See our SMS Terms for full details.
5. Cookies and analytics
We use strictly necessary cookies to operate the Service (for example, to keep you signed in) and may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage and improve the product. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect functionality. We honor recognized opt-out signals where required by law.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your mobile information for third-party marketing. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers who help us operate — for example, Stripe (payments), cloud hosting and storage, email and SMS delivery providers, analytics, and the scheduling/video tools used for optional tutor sessions — under contracts that limit their use of the data to providing services to us;
- Tutors and coaches you choose to work with, to the extent needed to deliver the session or feedback you requested (for example, sharing a draft you submitted for review);
- Legal and safety — when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights, property, or safety;
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
We do not report your activity to your school and do not act as a record-holder for your institution.
7. Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described here, including to provide the Service, maintain billing and tax records, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. As an indication, accounting and tax records are typically retained for seven (7) years where required by law; account and study data are retained while your account is active and for a limited period afterward so you can reactivate, after which they are deleted or anonymized. You can request deletion of your account and study data as described below.
8. How we protect information
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), least-privilege access controls, hashed passwords, and confidentiality obligations on our team. Card data is handled entirely by Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1); we do not store full card numbers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify affected parties of incidents without undue delay and within the timeframes required by applicable law.
9. Your privacy rights
U.S. state rights (including California / CCPA). Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access, correct, or delete it, to obtain a copy, and to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” (we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not sell or share mobile information for marketing). We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
For CCPA purposes, the categories of personal information we collect are: identifiers (such as name, email, and, if you opt in, mobile number); account and study data (such as the courses you study, your self-marked progress, practice results, and drafts you upload); commercial information (such as your plan and transaction records); and internet or other electronic network activity (such as usage and device data). We disclose these categories only to the service providers described above, for the business purposes described above. You may submit a request yourself or through an authorized agent.
EU/UK rights (GDPR). If the GDPR applies, you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time, as well as to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our legal bases include your consent, performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, and compliance with legal obligations.
To exercise any right, email contact@coursefpx.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
10. International users
We are based in the United States and process information there. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.
11. Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for adult learners aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date reflects the current version. Material changes will be posted here and, where appropriate, communicated to you.
